YOUTH PROGRAMS

Youth Adventures in Leadership (YAIL) is open to participants ages 15 to 17 and is held annually at Alexandra Neighbourhood House (2916 McBride Avenue, Surrey, BC, Canada).

Participants are sponsored by their local Rotary Club in District 5050. YAIL gives participants insight into some of the basics of what it means and takes to be a leader. The YAIL Program works to help participants become well-rounded individuals with increased perspective and enthusiasm for growth, who can make informed decisions through their leadership journey.

 

The SASSY Awards (Service Above Self Surrey Youth) is Semiahmoo Rotary’s celebration and recognition of the fantastic youth who live, work, volunteer, and learn in Surrey and White Rock. Recognizing and engaging exceptional youth in our community honours our core Rotarian values of Service, Fellowship, Diversity, Integrity and Leadership. We are also investing in our future leaders and building capacity in Rotary.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program for community youth leaders. Young people chosen for their leadership potential attend an all-expenses-paid seminar to discuss leadership skills and to hone those skills through practice.

 
The Rotary Youth Engaged in Service Program (YES) provides unique local and international service opportunities to 
grade 11 high school students.   
  • Local community organizations receive hundreds of volunteer hours as each student commits to a minimum of eighty hours of meaningful service during the school year. 
  • Villagers at international service sites are provided with much needed assistance and develop positive relationships with Americans and Canadians. 
  • Students experience a culture quite unlike their own, causing them to reevaluate their priorities and goals. 
  • Rotarians become more enthusiastic about fundraising when they learn of the significant impact of their efforts.
 
Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people aged 12 to 18. Interact clubs are generally sponsored by a Rotary club or clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.
Each year, an Interact club completes at least two community service projects, one of which features international understanding and goodwill. Interact helps students develop leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrate helpfulness and respect for others, understand the value of individual responsibility and hard work and advances international understanding and world peace. 
Consisting of young people aged 18 to 30 years, Rotaract aims to provide its members in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual assistance, the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and methods to promote the development of their personality, taking into account the physical and social needs of the community and to work for good relations between peoples. 


Rotaract helps young people:

  • Increase their professional competence and leadership skills;
  • Respect the rights of others and recognize the value of each;
  • Recognize the dignity and importance of all useful occupations and consideration as a means of action within society;
  • Accept, observe and promote high ethical standards as a basis for any professional activity;
  • Appreciate and understand the needs, problems and potential of the community and other countries;
  • Lead, in individual or collective action in the public interest favoring local or international agreement.
