Youth Adventures in Leadership (YAIL) 2017 a massive success!

Youth Adventures in Leadership (YAIL) had another successful weekend at Camp Alexandra in Crescent Beach on January 20 – 22, 2017.
52 participants, in the 10th and 11th grades (ages 15 - 17) arrived on the Friday wondering why they were there and on Sunday 52 young leaders left with a new perspective on life. As the wise Sal Abbot said this weekend, "it's okay not to be perfect. You don't have to be perfect to be a leader. You just have to act. Leadership is an action. Not a title."
Connor said "Coming into it, I had no idea what to expect. I figured it would be a same old leadership conference and was not extremely excited. The first hour I was there, I was proved wrong. The lessons and concepts I learned at YAIL were clearer to me than they have ever been and it only took two days for it to happen. I learned and understood more in this short period of time than I have learned in multiple previous week long conferences I have attended."
Another participant said "I wont sugar coat it - I came into YAIL as a quiet, troubled, simple girl in my bubble and this weekend took me out of my bubble, gave me many new friends and new skills to interact. Being able to connect with people like me and people totally opposite to me.. and changed me in a positive way!"
The weekend curriculum is managed by a team of outstanding facilitators who are past attendees of both YAIL and RYLA. Kudos to the District 5050 YAIL organizing committee which just happens to include Semiahmoo Rotary's very own Ray PAQUET and Jeff HARRISON.
Another stupendous Rotary Youth Program!
